Vera is a small town in the province of Almeria with 7 kilometres of blue flag beach and some 14,000 inhabitants. The town has many centuries of history and Carthaginians, Romans and Moors all inhabited this site. The new town some of which can still be seen was built in the 1520´s and incorporates open plazas, a city wall with 8 towers and sturdy battlements and the church of Nuestro Señora de Encarnacion with a beautiful Gothic exterior.
The town now makes a living from mineral mining in the Siera Almagrera, they have a flourising agricultural base and growing tourism.
