CHICLANA DE LA FRONTERA

Chiclana de la Frontera is as old as it is famous. The town sits astride the river Iro with its landmark blue bridge.  Modern day Chiclana de la Frontera has both an old town and a new town but its fame lies in the beach area known as La Barrosa. At one time the town sat inland a few miles with a long thin road leading down the the beach but over time this road has filled in with beautiful houses, shops and manicured roundabouts.  It is now almost impossible to tell where Chiclana town stops and the beach area begins.

THE BEAUTIFUL BEACH AT LA BARROSA

Famous throughout Spain it is regarded as one of the best beaches in the country and is a favourite year after year with Spanish holiday makers.  With its endless paseo (promenade)  running along the sea front and fantastic beach it is well worth a visit and you can linger a while in one of the tapas bars or fish restaurants watching the fabulous sunsets over the island of Sancti Petri with its Roman temple dedicated to Hercules.

THE CHARMING BUILDINGS OF CHICLANA

The charm of the buildings in Chiclanas old town lies partly in the tiled church roofs adorned with nesting storks. You can recognise the locals by the skill with which they duck to avoid a collision with the birds as they swoop from above to gather up food scraps from the many outdoor cafes. Its newly built indoor market is a popular meeting place for the locals and provides an insight into everyday life in the town.  Much of the produce on sale here comes from the countryside surrounding Chiclana.  The new town spreads towards the east where many of the buildings are 19th century and a large building project has seen some stunning new buildings erected over the past ten years.  Visiting Chiclana de la Frontera is an unforgettable experience.

EXCELLENT MODERN FACILITIES AND RAIL LINK

Chiclana has several health centres, many schools for both juniors and seniors, extensive shops, supermarkets and banks, plus theatres and a well organized calendar of events throughout the year.  Housing is in apartments, townhouses or detached houses with gardens.

The new rail link from Cadiz opens up a whole new area to the residents of Chiclana and the ability to take a train to Cadiz and onwards to Seville, Jerez and Madrid to name but a few places of interest.
