PALOMARES

Palomares is an agricultural and fishing area in Almeria on the Mediteranean coast of Spain.  It lies in the municipality of Cuevas del Almanzora.   Almeria is famous as the place chosen by Sergio Leone to film many of his spaghetti westerns.  He used the backdrop of the Desert of Tabernas for movies such as A Fist Full of Dollars, For a few Dollars More and The Good The Bad and The Ugly.  Segio certainly put Almeria on the map but other Holywood greats climbed aboard the wagon and used the Almeria desert for  scenes in Cleopatra,  King of Kings and Lawrence of Arabia.  Then it was discovered by one of the greatest film makers ever – Steven Speilberg who used it for the filming of Indiana Jones.  If desert is not your thing there is always the Cabo de Gata natural park with its wonderful beaches.
