El Rompido is a sweet little fishing village on the Rio Piedras estuary. The estuary is a shallow bay of sheltered water some 300m wide protected by a rocky outcrop. This provides an area of calm warm water which protects El Rompido from any turbulent weather
Considered to be one of the best in the area the beach at El Rompido is backed by pine woods. The woods are part of the Paraje Natural Marismas de Rio Piedras and along with the sand dunes and tidal creaks provide an excellent habitat for both rare plants and birds.
The small fishing village is well kept and provides some excellent bars and restaurants stretched out along the seafront. The emphasis is on fish but they also serve some very good game and meat dishes. The area is popular with Portugese families who spend the odd weekend there and take day trips to the area.
El Rompido itself is a quiet little village but just along the coast the nightlife of Isla Christina, Isla Canela and Islantilla is available and these three towns provide plenty of entertainment to keep even the most ardent nightbird occupied.
