A new rail link is currently under construction between Cadiz the capital city of the province and Chiclana.  It is timed to coincide with the arrival of the new AVE railway between Cadiz and Seville in 2012.  It will also link the Costa de la Luz via Chiclana directly with Jerez Airport.
The station at the airport is expected to be a year in construction. With the massive improvements made to the rail structure around the Bay of Cadiz and the added bridge and railway line at Puerto Real the journey from Cadiz to Madrid will be reduced from 5 hours to just over 3.

‘We welcome the building of the new link from Chiclana to Cadiz.  Chiclana is a buzzing town of nearly 70,000 people and until now the only way to get to Cadiz was by bus or car. Obviously from Cadiz you can go to Seville, Jerez, Madrid and other parts of Spain so it has been a cause of much consternation for many years that the nearest rail link was San Fernando.
