Situated in the 'Casco Antiguo' or the Old Town of Cadiz City the Atico is ideally located for access to all the sites and transport connections. The railway station lies only 5 minutes walk away, as do the bus station and the Port of Cadiz. We are located between the oldest plaza in Cadiz, Plaza San Juan de Dios, home to the Townhall and Cathedral Square, with the beautiful Cathedral of Cadiz. Both plazas offer an excellent selection of tapas bars, restaurants and cafe´s with outdoor seating and of course great views. Local shops, banks, indoor market hall and supermarkets also abound and are all within a couple of minute´s walk from the apartment. Our property is situated in a street which was home to the famous flamenco guitar maker Franciso Bonichi nicknamed Don Poncho and the area still houses many artesan workshops for painters, potters and furniture makers especially within the Barrio Populo which is only a minute´s walk. This ancient and very famous Barrio also offers a good selection of bars, restaurants and cafe´s. Due to the layout of the Old Town of Cadiz you are never far from anything and the beaches are also within easy walking distance as is the promenade which goes on for several kilometers and offers excellent fish restaurants, beach bars and evening entertainment. The history of Cadiz is second to none. It is the oldest inhabited capital of Europe and the Roman remains and medieval buildings have been lovingly preserved by the nation. You can spend days just wandering from the narrow cobbled streets to the open flower filled plazas taking the odd fino or coffee along the way. There is plenty to see, including the Roman Theatre, the Royal Prison, the sea fortresses of Santa Catalina and La Caleta and the numerous towers, museums and exhibitions which flourish in the City. However, if you fancy a day out of Cadiz, the train or bus service is excellent and we recommend a visit to Jerez de la Frontera, famous for its horses and sherry. It is only 30 minutes on the train and the Bodega (wine cellar) tours are good as is the Royal School of Equestrian Arts who offer tours and shows. Alternatively, Seville is also well worth a visit with its stunning Cathedral, Giralda and ancient Jewish Quarter. The remainder of the Costa de la Luz is also easily accessible and offers some 74 blue flag beaches so if you like sand and sun there is plenty of choice either in the City or along the coast. Dining out in Cadiz can be as informal or formal as you choose. There are numerous old established family restaurants offering local fresh produce cooked to perfection or there are the new restaurants offering traditional dishes but with a modern twist in very elegant surroundings. The other alternative is to have a tapas bar crawl choosing your little plates of food as you go and a few fino´s (local sherries) to accompany them. Cadiz is a friendly City and the locals welcome visitors. There is an excellent Tourist Information Centre on Plaza San Juan de Dios if you need maps or leaflets and there are guided tours of the city and tour buses if you prefer organised touring..
French doors lead from the lounge to the first terrace with views over the skyline of Cadiz. and there is a Moroccan style table and chairs for dining al fresco. A spiral staircase takes you up to the second very large terrace with sunbeds which has stunning views of Cadiz Cathedral.

Cadiz is reckoned by many, including Spaniards, to host the best and liveliest fiestas, notably the annual Carnival in (February) and Semana Santa (Easter week), but there are many more throughout the year. Take a day trip to the beautiful village of Bolonia and tour the well preserved Roman Village with its amphitheatre, temple and Garam manufacturing area where they made fish sauce for export to all parts of the Roman world. Have lunch in one of the thatched fish restaurants on the shoreline or just take a long walk along the deserted white sand beach and watch the local cows paddling in the sea. We have personally lived 10 years in Spain and are happy to give you any information you require about Cadiz or the Costa de la Luz.
